Like the gifted young musicians we train, LAMP is propelled by passion and ambition. And like them, we are driven to realize our boundless potential.

Offering music instruction at the highest possible level; ensuring our training is accessible to the young artists who deserve this opportunity; diversifying our local economy through arts and culture; and sharing the wealth of talent passing through our doors with people of all ages and walks of life—these are LAMP's goals.

You can help!

As a registered charity operating on a balanced budget, with only a quarter of our annual revenue coming from government, we rely on the generosity of private donors and corporate sponsors who share our passion. Our success in attracting philanthropic investment has a direct impact on our ability to engage the top international artists who characterize our faculty, and recruit and train our most gifted young musicians.

There are lots of ways to get involved!

Gifted Young Artists Bursary Fund – $1,000

As a post-graduate school, most of the young artists applying to LAMP have already invested heavily in their undergraduate, even graduate-level educations and are burdened by significant debt; sometimes as much as $100,000.

For this reason, while LAMP offers an incredible opportunity for the specialized training these young artists want and need, it can also present a major financial obstacle in the form of tuition and travel costs.

To reduce this very real barrier and the related anxiety for emerging musicians, we created the Gifted Young Artists Bursary Awards.

For your tax deductible gift of $1000, we'll connect you with a deserving young artist. If there's a particular instrument or type of music you prefer – let's say, the violin – we'll do our best to find a recipient who fits the profile. And we'll put you in touch. Ideally, to meet in person. But failing that, we'll be sure to put you in contact so you can hear firsthand, from the source, how LAMP's programs and your support truly make a difference.

Outreach

From our inception, LAMP has placed a high priority on sharing the talents of our artists and the music of composers past and present-day with our extended community through ambitious outreach programming and special barrier-free concert events – which is our way of saying, we don't charge admission. We try to make such concerts financially and geographically accessible.

We're proud that every year, LAMP artists perform for more than 6,000 students in schools across the South Shore and beyond; a figure that doesn't include preschoolers. We love to perform for seniors in care; to watch someone now confined to a wheelchair nonetheless move his feet through remembered steps as a tango is performed (true story!). But we want to do more!

You can help us by sponsoring an outreach series or event; $1000-5000 depending on location and number of musicians. Our long-term goal would be acquisition of a van in which to transport musicians (est. $38,000); currently we get by thanks to our fantastic family of volunteers, but as we grow, those asks can be overwhelming. And please, if you recognize an opportunity for LAMP to reach a new part of the community we're not yet reaching, let us know

Stocks and securities accepted

In recent years, more people have been making donations of stocks and securities, which is another great method of giving. With a donation of this type, capital gains taxes do not apply, allowing you to give more and increase your charitable tax credit! For more information on that process, please contact our office by phone at 902-634-8667 or email.

Cheques or money orders should be made payable to the Rossini Opera Festival Nova Scotia and mailed to:

Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance
PO Box 309
Lunenburg NS B0J 2C0

Please be sure to include your contact information, including phone number and mailing address, so that we can send you our thanks and your tax receipt.

Masters of Music Fund – $5,000

If the opportunity to experience luminary artists the likes of Gidon Kremer, Barbara Hannigan and Martha Argerich gets your blood pumping, perhaps you'd like to help us secure the world-leading talent that's come to define the LAMP experience by sponsoring a Faculty Master. Again, we pledge to connect you in some way; ideally, with front-row seats at a related concert and the opportunity to be introduced. International travel expenses, housing and professional fees to bring a workshop or academy master typically average $5000–$7500.

LAMP Scholars – $10,000

Each year, LAMP accepts a small number of emerging artists to EAR, our innovative alternative to the traditional university-based Masters program. These 10-to-16-week residencies are packed with potential!

Designed to expand the artistic and entrepreneurial horizons of post-graduate musicians, preparing them for successful and fulfilling careers, EAR makes LAMP a truly full-time school. While those attending our one- and two-week academies come and go, EAR scholars live in our community, creating lasting relationships. What's more, their presence creates a ready pool of artists keen to share great music via LAMP's extensive outreach programming.

This service learning is another defining facet of the LAMP experience: working to develop and deliver meaningful programming to audiences of diverse ages and backgrounds; exploring the human connections that can take classical music to whole new audiences; and getting a taste of the very real rewards that come from 'giving back.'

Each award is named for or by the benefactor.

Instruments and
learning spaces

Still more funding opportunities exist in the sphere of capital investments. For example, LAMP's Early Music programs have been an area of consistent growth and artistic achievement. At present, we loan and transport instruments from Halifax to facilitate these programs. Ideally, LAMP would have its own harpsichord and forte piano ($25,000 each).

Similarly, though we adore the acoustics and expansive views offered by our premises at the Academy, we're short on individual practice spaces. We could subdivide and soundproof an existing classroom, as done on other floors of the building, for $35,000. Some day we will also address seating in the concert hall—but that's at least a few years away!

If capital projects are your preference, please give us a call at 902-634-8667 to discuss ways we might work together.
