Creating the next generation
of great performers

The Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance (Lamp) operates under the umbrella of the Rossini Opera Festival Nova Scotia, a registered charity under the Canadian Income Tax Act.

Lamp is a center for advanced studies in performance and interpretation where extraordinary in house concerts are produced. The Lamp Recital Hall has become one of the most innovative and exciting concert venues in Canada.

Our primary mission is to shape, influence and forge the next generation of outstanding performing artists within the walls of a Canadian architectural treasure. Our mission is achieved by providing carefully selected young artists with proven talent and ambition the career changing opportunity to be mentored by and perform with many of the most sought after and influential artists of our time.

Lamp exists to provide emerging artists a multidisciplinary environment where they can explore the creation and performance of new works and the reinvention and re-offering of conventional works.

Each year Lamp offers several one to two week academies that include chamber music, early music, new music/composition, opera, voice, world and jazz. We also offer Emerging Artist Residencies and, new in 2022, fully funded Fellowship residencies offered to extraordinarily talented musicians. Please visit the links below for more information on our upcoming programmes.

Upcoming programs

Registration is now open to all 2023-24 academies and workshops. These programs are intended for singers and instrumentalists who hold either a degree from a university music program or a diploma from a music conservatory. Great musicians emerge on their own time. If you have the passion and skill, make an application. We consider all qualified participants.

Composition Academy 2021

Deadline for applications is 31 March 2021.

In just six years, this program has emerged as a standout opportunity for emerging composers in Canada.

Led by Robert Aitken, with Dinuk Wijeratne, Anna Sokolovic and Gavin Fraser, with Ivan Fedele joining us virtually from Italy.

The Composition Academy offers a blend of master classes, collaborative learning opportunities, hands-on writing and score workshops. It culminates in a concert of world premieres written by the participants and inspired according to pre-set themes and instrumentation. The final works are always prepared and performed by professional musicians—another aspect that distinguishes LAMP's program from other composition schools or festivals. Not only highly skilled, these are artists who love contemporary music and are as invested in this experience as any of our composers. Taken together, it is the perfect destination for serious young composers.
